Many times we have seen a captain was removed after he fails to perform and once again it was seen during the recently-suspended Indian Premier league where SunRisers Hyderabad captain David Warner was removed and the responsibility was given to Kane Williamson. Despite being one of the best players in world cricket and leading SRH in their maiden IP title in 2016, he failed to do well this season which was the main reason behind this decision from the franchise.

Shreevats Goswami, one of the players of SRH has recalled how he reacted when he got to know that Kane Williamson will lead the team instead of David Warner. “Obviously, if you ask David or Kane or the management, there has to be a different angle to it. We as domestic players – especially me who hasn’t played a lot of games and hasn’t gotten involved too much in these decisions – it was quite ok for us,” he said to Cricket.com.

However, he also added that there can be a bit of ‘remorse’ among other players as well.

“Look, it didn’t really affect the players. I mean, it was a tough call on the management’s part but it wasn’t dropped on players. We were quite ok with the whole situation. Yes, there will be a bit of remorse in certain players with that decision but I think we were in good spirits and looking to contribute towards the team’s success in the remaining games,” he further added.

David Warner was sacked suddenly after SRH managed to win only one match in the entire IPL 2021 season before its suspension. However, this also included the defeats against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore as in both these games, SRH lost from a winning position as well.

However, they didn’t have a better result under Kane Williamson too as they lost the game to Rajasthan Royals who won the game by a whopping 55 runs before the board decided to call off the cash-rich league amid the crunch time of COVID-19.
