Former India pace bowler RP Singh has lost his father Shiv Prasad Singh on Wednesday due to COVID-19. The veteran cricketer has said that his father was suffering from the deadly virus and he shared a note on social media as well.
“It is with deepest grief and sadness we inform the passing away of my father, Mr Shiv Prasad Singh. He left for his heavenly abode on 12th May after suffering from Covid. We request you to keep my beloved father in your thoughts and prayers. RIP Papa,” RP Singh wrote on social media.

RP Singh, who played 14 Tests, 58 One Day Internationals and 10 Twenty20 Internationals for India, had won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 as well. He announced his retirement at the age of 32 in 2018 and then turned into a successful commentator as well. Notably, RP Singh was also a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee that picked the selection committee members for the senior national team as well.

Meanwhile, on Monday, his former India teammate Piyush Chawla also lost his father. The spinner also lost his father Pramod due to the deadly virus. And, RP Singh shared his condolence also. He tweeted: “मैं ईश्वर से प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि, पीयूष चावला के पिता जी प्रमोद चाचा की आत्मा को शांति प्रदान करें। और इस दुखद घड़ी में परिवार को सहनशक्ति दे। ॐ शान्ति 🙏”

However, the second wave of the COVID-19 virus has badly infected people in India where over 4 lakh people have been affected on a daily basis. Along with this, over 4000 people are dying too. India’s total Covid-1 cases tally has now reached 2,33,40,938 while the active cases are at 37,04,099 as well
It is also noteworthy that, young uncapped left-arm pace bowler Chetan Sakariya had also lost his father due to Covid-19 earlier this month. Sakariya, who played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021, was with his father at the hospital after returning home from IPL 2021, which has now been suspended due to the rise of Covid-19 cases despite being in bio-bubbles as well.
