Former England skipper Michael Vaughan opined who might come on top in the forthcoming final of the World Test Championship. India and New Zealand will face each other in the marquee clash to claim the biggest prize of Test cricket. Vaughan backed New Zealand to win the final as they will get used to the English conditions after playing two Test matches against England prior to the final.

New Zealand are in line to play a two-match Test series against England starting from the first week of June. Hence, they will get a good taste of the duke balls, which will be used in the final as well. After the conclusion of the series, New Zealand will travel to Southampton for the final, which will commence on 18 June.

On the other hand, India will land in England in the first week of June after completing 14-day quarantine in Mumbai. It will be interesting to see whether Team India will be allowed to train during their quarantine period.

“New Zealand (will win). English conditions, the Duke ball, and India on the back of a busy schedule they’ll arrive pretty much a week before and go straight into it, [and] New Zealand have two test matches, you could argue warmups against England to get them prepared for the final,” Vaughan told Spark Sport.

“So it’s quite an obvious one for me, New Zealand will be better prepared and they’ll have more of a group of players who’ve played more cricket with the red ball, particularly the Duke ball here in the UK. New Zealand, all the way.”

Earlier, Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar had hinted that being under-prepared going into the WTC final can help India. Also, they were in full praises for Team India’s confidence ahead of the all-important game.
