Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar heaped praises on Mohammed Siraj and said he has gone from strength to strength since touring Australia. He also noted how Siraj’s performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 was outstanding.

Siraj was picked in the Test squad for the tour of Australia last year. Mohammad Shami got injured during the Adelaide Test and Siraj got to make his debut in Melbourne’s Boxing-day Test. He went on to play the last three Tests and made a vital contribution in Team India’s historic series win Down Under by 2-1. He ended the series as the highest wicket-taker from the Indian contingent.

“Mohammed Siraj has gone from strength to strength after the tour of Australia and he was relentlessly at the batsmen even in the final over just as how he was at the first over of the innings,” wrote Gavaskar in a column for Sportstar.

Siraj also grabbed six wickets during the Indian Premier League 2021. The league got suspended halfway after several Covid-19 cases breached into the bio-bubble. Royal Challengers Bangalore were playing well this season and the emergence of Siraj is one of the factors in that success.

Further, Gavaskar praised RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal for his batting heroics in the IPL 2021. He backed Padikkal to be a future star and rated his contribution in the same bracket as that of AB de Villiers.

“The Bangalore team had a marvellous run thanks in the main to its batting dominated by the peerless AB de Villiers. Young Devdutt Padikkal got a terrific century and looks a great prospect for the future in all forms of the game,” wrote Gavaskar.

Royal Challengers Bangalore started the IPL 2021 with a bang as they recorded four straight wins – their best run at the start of any IPL season. When the league got suspended, RCB were sitting comfortably at the number three with five wins out of seven games under their belt.
