Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar doubts whether this Indian team will be able to dominate the world cricket like West Indies and Australia of the past despite being “supremely talented”. Team India is playing an aggressive brand of cricket in recent years and has been doing well away from home as well.

West Indies of the 1970s to 1980s were the world beaters and had won everywhere they played. They were a force to reckon with and defeated every team in every condition. The same was Australia of the 2000s, who won three successive World Cups and dominated world cricket in a fine fashion.

“I’m not too sure they’ll be able to dominate as West Indies did. They were winning all five Test matches, even the Australians were, winning four out of five. I’m not too sure if this Indian team can do that because of the fact that while they are actually a supremely talented team, there are at times inconsistencies that you see,” Gavaskar said on The Cricket Analyst Show on Youtube.

“That is the only thing that makes me hold my breath a little bit. But as far as the potential of this team is concerned, I think the sky is the limit,” he added.

Gavaskar further believes that this Indian team is doing well because every time there is a player who stepped up with bat or ball at important junctures.

“Clearly, in a game of cricket, not all 11 can succeed. But if four of them can two batsmen and two bowlers then you’re winning more games. And that is what this Indian team certainly is capable of,” he further quoted.

Team India is dominating the Test ranking for the last five years and haven’t been dethroned from the top spot since then. Now, they will be facing New Zealand in the World Test Championship Final in Southampton on June 18.
