India’s ace batsman Rohit Sharma has revealed the way he is going to play against a quality side like New Zealand in the World Test Championship final. He said that keeping things “simple and realistic” would be ideal for the Indian team, where the opening day has already been abandoned a heavy rain.
Rohit, who is all set to open for India for the very first time in England, is also confident of tackling the strong New Zealand attack, as he has faced them enough in the limited overs.
“I have played those guys and know about their strengths and weaknesses. It will all boil down to what the conditions are, what sort of situation the team is in, whether we are batting first or second,” Rohit Sharma told broadcasters ‘Star Sports’. “All that will count and it’s important not to overthink. Against a quality side, it is also very important to keep things simple, and realistic.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma loves the traditional format as well.
“You are challenged for five days and which I think doesn’t happen anywhere. Everyday brings a different challenge, a longer game that needs patience, you play in different conditions and it’s not the easiest. You have to be mentally fresh for five days to make good decisions on the field. Physically you need to be fit to accept and overcome those challenges,” he concluded.
On the other hand, since the first day of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) between India and New Zealand in Southampton has been abandoned due to rain, many have thought the playing XI which has already announced on Thursday, can be changed before the toss takes place. But India’s fielding coach R Sridhar revealed that they won’t change the playing XI as well.

“I think the XI which has been announced is the XI that takes the pitch and conditions out of the equation. I think it is an XI which can play and perform on any given surface and in any given weather conditions. So that is what I believe: this XI is all about which we have put on the park,” he said to the media.
