The ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand is going on at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. And, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced some rules for its smooth run as well. While a reserve day is already there, the third umpire will automatically review any call of the ‘short-run’ as well. However, Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch raised question over the need for three reviews per side recently.
Notably, before the COVID-19 pandemic, each team used to get two reviews per innings but now a few rules have been changed too. And, an additional review per team has been added as well. While neutral umpires standing in the much-anticipated WTC final, Aaron Finch said that the two-review rule should have been used. “How come both teams have 3 reviews, when there is neutral umpires in this test match? I thought it was only brought in because of home umpires recently! #justasking,” he tweeted.

Responding to his post, a fan asked how many reviews should be there. In reply, Aaron Finch wrote: “I like the 2 reviews in tests and thought it was fine. Totally understood the change in adding an extra one in all formats because of the Covid restrictions in umpires traveling internationally.”

However, Finch further tweeted: “I’m not saying it’s wrong, I think reviews and technology are amazing for the game. Just wondering why it hasn’t changed back. Is the current number going to stay the same in all formats from now on?”

Recently, he also opened up about the Australian players who have opted out of the international tours. He said that they will have a hard time justifying to feature in the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021 in the UAE, during the national tour.

The players like David Warner, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Marcus Stoinis and Daniel Sams have withdrawn from their upcoming West Indies as well as the Bangladesh series if that tour is confirmed.
“The other guys I was a little bit surprised,” Aaron Finch told SEN Radio. “I’ve chatted to them all a little bit surprised but it’s also understandable but I wish that they were there. I think they would find it hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL.”
