Despite the fact that the Indian team failed to pull off a clinical performance on Day 3 of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, they have come all guns blazing on Day 5. A lot of credit for the same goes to Mohammed Shami, which bowled brilliant and spells and got the wickets of Ross Taylor and BJ Watling. 

Earlier in the game, New Zealand bowlers kept the Indians in check and restricted them to 217 with Kyle Jamieson taking a 5-fer. In reply, Tom Latham and Devon Conway added a solid 70-run partnership for the first wicket. Kiwis ended Day 3 with 101/2 as Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were on strike. The Black Caps resumed the game on Day 5 cautiously and Mohammed Shami found his rhythm back as he bowled really well. He dismissed Ross Taylor in the 64th over.

Five overs later, Ishant Sharma also got teh wicket of Henry Nicholls as Rohit Sharma took a very good catch at the second slip. New Zealand started to lose control over the game as the Indians got back right back in the game. New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman BJ Watling is playing his last Test match. The right-handed batsman who came out to bat was looking to get into the comfort zone.

However, ruthless Mohammed Shami showcased his bowling skill by hitting the bull’s eyes. He literally bamboozled BJ Watling and castled his stumps.  Kiwis posted 135/5 with Kane Williamson (19*) and Colin de Grandhomme (0*) at the crease.

It seems that Indian bowlers are in upbeat mood as they will look to remove the next half of the Kiwis’ batting line-up after the lunch session. Apart from the rain, the ICC WTC Final has been nothing short of an entertaining contest.
