Team India has suffered a defeat to New Zealand in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) final. While their defeat raised many questions about the performances of the players, India captain Virat Kohli too have come under the scanner. And, now Indian cricket management is likely to rethink the team selection for the upcoming five-match Test against England, starting from August 4.

Cheteshwar Pujara

Indian batting unit failed miserably where no batsman could reach fifty. Moreover, both the stalwarts of the game – Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara failed to do well. And as per reports, Pujara is likely to be dropped in the upcoming series against England after his rather forgettable show. Notably, he scored just 8 runs in the first innings off 54 deliveries and in the second innings, he managed to score just 15 runs that too came off 80 deliveries as well.

While his batting raised many questions and fans said that he should work on his strike rate, his batting has been creating too much pressure on the other batsman as well. And, if reports are to be true, then Pujara might be replaced by someone. As per a report from inside Sports, the selection committee have someone in mind as well where either KL Rahul or Hanuma Vihari could be seen as well. And, if this happens then it will be tough for him to return to the squad as he plays only one format for India.

While both of them didn’t feature in the ICC WTC Final against New Zealand at The Rose Bowl in Southampton, India captain, Virat Kohli might be seen in his usual No.3 position. The captain has given the spot to Pujara and he used to bat at No.4 in the Test but this time around, he might come to bat early as well so that he would have more time to settle down in the middle.
