“The viewership data for broadcast and digital coverage of the ICC World Test Championship Final presents a really heartening picture, showing strong consumption across territories and languages as well as formats,” Anurag Dahiya quoted in an ICC release.

“The ICC always strives to give the best possible viewership experience and will continue to invest in resources that enhance the viewing pleasure and engagement of our fans.”

India was the chief contributor in the total sum of this viewership number. Almost 94.6 per cent of viewers watched the final on India’s official broadcaster Star Sports and Doordarshan.

The viewership was good in New Zealand as well keeping their small population in mind. Around 200,000 people in New Zealand watched the final despite the game being played at an inconvenient time for their suiting. The viewers had to stay awake all night or had to wake up very early in the morning to watch the marquee clash.

New Zealand won the game on reserve day by eight wickets to secure their first ICC title since 2000, when Stephen Fleming won the Champions Trophy, also against India.

Team India put a good fight in front of New Zealand but the Indian batsmen faltered on the last day when it mattered the most to play out the day. New Zealand held their nerves and showed a lot of maturity while playing the final.
