Delhi Capitals were in good form in the Indian Premier League 2021 before it came to a halt. After making it to the finals in the IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals were topping the points table at the halfway mark of the season. Now, Shreyas Iyer will give them a boost going into the UAE-leg of the IPL 2021.
Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder during the One-Day International series against England earlier this year, which kept him at bay from the cricketing action. Subsequently, he missed the first leg of the IPL 2021 as well.

Rishabh Pant captained DC in his absence and will keep captaining the team despite Iyer’s return. DC head coach Ricky Ponting is happy to have Iyer back after a long lay-off.
“It’s great to have Shreyas back. He has got an infectious attitude. I have been talking to him a lot and his training has been great,” said Ricky Ponting.
“He’s so keen to get back into the field, score runs and win. He’s a world-class player and he’s going to add a lot to our team, there’s no doubt about that.”
Punter sounded excited to join Delhi Capitals again in Dubai for the remainder of the season.
“I have been waiting for four months to come back to the Delhi Capitals camp. I have such a great time when I work with the team and it’s a great time in my calendar year. I am really excited about what we’ve got coming up in the next four-five weeks,” he added.
Delhi Capitals were sitting at the top of the points table when the league was stopped. However, Ricky Ponting believes it doesn’t matter anymore and they will have to re-build once again.

“It doesn’t matter what we’ve done in the first half of the season. It’s been four months since we played some really good cricket, so we really have to start again,” he said.
“We have to build ourselves as we go along in the tournament and make sure that we are playing our best cricket at the back end of the tournament. Our performance in the first half of the tournament was because of how well we played and how hard we worked, but I don’t think we played our best cricket,” he signed off.
DC will resume its campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22 in Dubai.
