Delhi Capitals (DC) and Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is expected to undergo a scan later on Thursday after pulling up with a hamstring issue during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Stoinis hurt his left hamstring during the second ball of his second over, limping off the field and playing no further part in Wednesday’s match.
Delhi Capitals won the match convincingly by eight wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad, to go top of the table. Sunrisers pacer, Thangarasu Natarajan had tested positive for Covid-19 and was put in isolation hours before Wednesday’s match and the team was also without all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who was identified as a close contact of Natarajan.

The Capitals had earlier informed that Stoinis suffered a calf injury but cricket.com.au reported it was a strain in his left hamstring. Stoinis has been named in Australia’s 15-man squad for the October-November T20 World Cup after missing tours of the West Indies and Bangladesh, he will be expected to play a key role in the marquee event.

Australia’s first match of the T20 World Cup is a month away, with Marcus Stoinis being one of teh key members in the team, the Aussies will fancy their chances to win the trophy for the first time. His hamstring strain is thought to be a minor one, with the allrounder expected to go in for scans within the next 24 hours.

Marcus Stoinis looms as a particularly crucial ingredient in Australia’s T20 squad given his ability with the bat in the death overs, a position the Aussies have struggled to fill. Talking about the same during a recent chat with ESPN, Marcus had said, “My next phase, the way I see it, over the next three years I want to be not only the best finisher in Australia, I want to be the best finisher in the world.”
Delhi Capitals (DC) will now be locking horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
