Eoin Morgan Will Be Banned For The Next Game Of KKR?

Eoin Morgan, who is leading the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had earlier been fined as the team maintained a slow over-rate while playing against Mumbai Indians (MI ) at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi during the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. However, the last game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended quite late, and if Morgan is found guilty another time (his third offense) then he will have to pay a fine of INR 30 lakh and serve a one-match ban. The other players will be docked INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser.

After the fine after the MI game, a statement by the IPL read, “As it was the team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offenses, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was fined INR 24 lakhs.”

While chasing 166, PBKS got off to a solid start where the batting effort from KL Rahul (67 off 55 balls) and Mayank Agarwal (40 off 27 balls) stitched 70 runs for the first wicket which laid teh foundation. KKR spinner, Varun Chakravarthy claimed a couple of wickets, conceding just 24 runs from his four overs as well.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was also fined after his side has maintained a slow over-rate during the game against PBKS at the Dubai International Stadium. According to an IPL official statement, “It was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

After the loss, Eoin Morgan said: “Initially we didn’t field as well, put catches down. Myself early too. We probably had a par score on the wicket. Kings played well, we fought back, but catches have cost us. I thought in real-time that the Tripathi catch was out. But when you slow it down, the third umpire decided otherwise. We got on with it once he made his call. Hopefully we play hard in the back end, get a few results and qualify into the playoffs.”
