On-field Umpire Made A Blunder In The SRH vs MI Game

On-field umpire committed a blunder white judging a wide-ball during the Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match of IPL 2021. During the 20th over of Mumbai Indians’ batting, Jason Holder bowled a bouncer which went well over the head of Suryakumar Yadav, but teh leg umpire decided not to call it a wide and termed it at first bouncer for the over.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan played brilliant knocks as the latter smacked 84 runs off 32 balls to give a quickfire start to Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar came up with a score of 82 off 40 balls which helped MI to reach the tally of 235-9. In teh last over of the first innings, Holder dismissed Piyush Chawla and managed to beat Yadav on the 2nd ball.

The 3rd delivery was an overhead bouncer and Yadav was quite sure about umpires calling it wide and also gestured it with his hands. However, to his surprise, the leg umpire called it a bouncer and not a wide. The MI batsman was visibly disheartened over the umpire’s call. Here is the video of teh incident:

Suryakumar Yadav was later dismissed by Jason Holder on the very next ball. During his 82-run knock, Yadav smashed 3 sixes and 13 boundaries. Earlier, Ishan Kishan smacked the fastest half-century of IPL 2021 as he surpassed the 50-run mark in just 16 balls. At 84, Umran Malik dismissed him with an edge that went into wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha’s gloves.

Mumbai Indians needed to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by a margin of 171 runs, which mean they had to bowl out SRH for just 65 to earn a better net run rate than Kolkata Knight Riders, but the match ended with SRH scoring 193/8 in their quota of 20 overs.

KKR currently takes the 4th spot in IPL 2021 points table with 14 points as hey defeated Rajasthan Royals by 86 runs in their final match of the group stage. KKR has a far better run rate than MI and they are now qualified for the playoffs.
