After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 for Team India, the focus is now shifting towards the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Multiple changes are expected in the squads for the New Zealand series, where three T20Is and two Test matches will take place.

India’s outgoing T20I skipper Virat Kohli is likely to miss the first Test match against New Zealand in Kanpur and can return for the second Test in Mumbai to lead the side. Kohli is likely to be rested to the T20I series as well as the first Test.

Rohit Sharma is likely to be Kohli’s replacement as the captain of the T20I side. On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the Test side against New Zealand if Kohli gives a skip to the first Test.

Rahane wasn’t in good form with the bat during the Test series in England but his place in the squad is more or so confirmed.

“Please do not read much into Virat resting for the initial matches. He’ll be back to captain the team from the second Test. The Test team is his and he’s done phenomenally well,” says sources that are tracking developments.

Team India has been in terrific form in Test cricket. Their last assignment was in England where they are having a lead in the five-match Test series with the final Test is to be played in July 2022. India are 2-1 up in the series after four Test matches.

India’s campaign in the T20 WC ended early

After being ended as the runner-up in the inaugural World Test Championship Final 2021 against New Zealand, Team India will try to do their best to go one step ahead this time around and stamp their authority in the Test cricket with an ICC trophy.
