Rohit Sharma To Miss The Test Series In South Africa, Doubtful For ODIs

Team India’s South Africa tour will be commencing on 26 December with the players scheduled to be flying to the rainbow nation on 16 December. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, Team India has suffered a big setback as the Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma has been injured during a training session in Mumbai and he has been ruled out of the Test series. Rohit suffered an injury when the ball thrown by the throwdown specialist Raghavendra went straight on his hand and he will be expected to miss the ODIs as well.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, first Ajinkya Rahane batted for 45 minutes and then, Rohit Sharma came to practice. During this, the ball hit his gloves and he was seen moaning with pain and appeared nervous for some time. One thing needs to be noticed is that Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are returning in the series against South Africa.

Recently, Rohit has also been made the captain of the ODI team before the South Africa tour. He is going to replace Virat Kohli. This will be Rohit’s first tour as ODI captain if manages to get fit.

Team India has to play the first test on South Africa tour on 26 December which is a couple of weeks away from now. Since Rohit is ruled out of the Test series, Mayank Agarwal will be expected to open with KL Rahul in the Test. Mayank was in amazing form in the recent Test series against New Zealand. He scored a brilliant century in the second Test in Mumbai.

Earlier in the day, the reports of ESPNCricinfo suggested that if Rohit Sharma gets ruled out, he will be replaced by the Gujarat batter Priyank Panchal, who has been alerted by BCCI. Earlier this year Panchal was part of an extended India squad that took on England in four Tests at home.
