Australia annihilated England in Adelaide

While England is yet to win a single Test, losing 11 of their last 12 completed Tests in Australia, India have won back-to-back Test series after a Virat Kohli-led team scripted history in 2018-19, registering their first-ever Test series win in Australia. India repeated the feat in 2020-21, pulling off an unbelievable 2-1 series win during which they breached Australia’s fortress at the Gabba.

On the other hand, England was hammered by 9 wickets in just 4 days in the Ashes opener at the Gabba. Despite not having their skipper, Pat Cummins, and fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood, Australia registered a huge 275-run victory in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, comfortably outclassing England in all three departments.

India began their tour in 2020-21 with a humiliating defeat in Adelaide after being bundled out for 36 in the pink-ball Test but they fought back and won the series 2-1. India missed the services of Virat Kohli for the last 3 Tests and lost key players, including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and R Ashwin, for the final Test at the Gabba. Going in with an inexperienced bowling attack led by then-rookie Mohammed Siraj, India won the 4th Test, chasing down 329 on Day 5.

Meanwhile, England skipper, Joe Root maintained that the visitors will head into the Boxing Day Test with confidence to reverse their fortunes but it’s going to be a tough ask. Australia captain, Pat Cummins will be coming back to the XI along with Josh Hazlewood after the two pacers missed the Adelaide Test.

Elaborating the same, Joe Root said, “We have to be (confident) about turning things around. I’m confident that we have all that we need to win here. Just need to stop repeating the same mistakes.”
