Cricket and Bollywood go hand in hand. While we often see players getting married to Bollywood actors, making biopics have become common too. Recently, famous Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer movie “83” has been released in theatres and as expected, it has done quite well on the box-office. The movie has made about the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup under the captaincy of former Indian player Kapil Dev.
While Ranveer Singh has portrayed the role of Kapil Dev, his wife Deepika Padukone has played the character of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev as well. As “83” is based on the real incident, the producers have purchased the rights for making the movie and paid the former cricketers to get their side of the story as well. And, if reports are to be true, the producers have paid an amount of Rs. 15 crores to the former Indian players who were a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad as well.

As per reports, the former Indian captain Kapil Dev has been paid an amount of Rs. 5 crore to share his story as he not only captain the team in the tournament with an example but also gave some stunning performances too. However, other than Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, other stars like Pankaj Tripathi (Team Manager Man Singh), Jiiva (Krishnamachari Srikkanth), Ammy Virk (Balwinder Sandhu), Tahir Raj Bhasin (Sunil Gavaskar), Dhairya Karwa (Ravi Shastri), Chirag Patil (Sandeep Patil), Sahil Khattar (Syed Kirmani), Saqib Saleem (Mohinder Amarnath), R Badree (Sunil Valson), Hardy Sandhu (Madan Lal), Addinath Kothare (Dilip Vengsarkar), Jatin Sarna (Yashpal Sharma), Nishant Dahiya (Roger Binny) and Dinker Sharma (Kirti Azad) played key roles as well.

However, in the 1983 World Cup, the West Indians were the firm favourites to win the trophy as they had already won the earlier two World Cups (1975 and 1979) as well. But, Team India made history by thrashing West Indies in the final and winning their first-ever cricket World Cup.
