The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to be commencing in a couple of days’ time and all the 10 teams that are going to take part in this year’s edition are giving their all in the training sessions to get into the groove. From this year onwards, the tournament will have an added spice with two teams set to join the contest, which makes the contest even more interesting.

Before the start of the battle on the field, teams were engaged in a bidding war to add the likes of high-profile players to their ranks during the player mega auction that took place in Bengaluru last month. And in that, every team reshaped their squad in an attempt to add freshness by adding the likes of some new players, and the Punjab Kings were among the franchises that ended up setting a strong set of players on paper.

PBKS bought the services of senior Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan, who is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the IPL. Aside from bringing in a slew of foreign players, including South African fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada and English limited-overs specialists Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, the club has made a number of acquisitions. They have also retained the services of Indian opener Mayank Agarwal, along with young pacer Arshdeep Singh, who was impressive in the last two editions of the league.

In a conversation with the Sports Tak YouTube channel, talking about PBKS, the 72-year-old said, “Punjab Kings is one more team that has not won the IPL title yet. Mayank Agarwal And if we look at the squad they have picked this time as well, then I don’t think they have got an impact player. But this thing benefits the team as well, because if the expectations are low, then the pressure will also be low. And if the pressure is low, then any player can play more freely.”

He further added, “So, in that way, I think the Punjab Kings can surprise a few teams in the course of the tournament. But will they go on and lift the title? I have a few doubts about it at the moment. But this is T20 cricket and in this format, if you win matches on a roll, things might change.”

In the 2022 edition of the league that is scheduled to take place across four venues in Maharashtra, PBKS will open its campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on March 27.
