MI Signs Replacement Of Suryakumar Yadav For The Last Two IPL Games

Mumbai Indians (MI) has confirmed the signing of Akash Madhwal in their squad as a replacement for the injured top-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav, for a remaining couple of matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Suryakumar was ruled out of the league after he sustained a muscle-related injury in his left forearm.

The unfortunate incident took place during MI’s match against the Gujarat Titans on May 6. In his stead, Madhwal has been roped in by MI for his base price of INR 20 lakh, the official website of the IPL confirmed in a statement in the evening on Monday.

In a statement confirming the same, Mumbai Indians said, “Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed Akash Madhwal as a replacement for batter Suryakumar Yadav who was ruled out of the TATA IPL 2022 owing to a left forearm muscle injury. Madhwal is a 28-year-old medium-pacer from Uttarakhand who has played 15 T20s and taken 15 wickets at an average of 26.60. He will join MI at the price of INR 20 Lakh.”

Akash Madhwal made his debut for Uttarakhand in 2019 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was already part of the support team and he will now be joining the squad ahead of their final two games in the league.

Madhwal is a right-arm medium pacer and has played in all 3 formats for his stateside. He was picked up by MI following a pre-season camp where he impressed the management.
