Notably, Williamson had left the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bio-bubble on May 18 and flew back to New Zealand to be his partner and family as they were to have their second child. Williamson was leading SRH in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The New Zealand Test skipper was replaced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar who was the stand-in skipper for their final IPL 2022 league match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, May 22.

The result did not go SRH in the final league match of IPL 2022 as they were unable to defend a 157-run total on a two-paced pitch at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Riding on Liam Livingstone’s blitz, PBKS chased down the target with 4.5 overs to spare.

SRH finished 8th in the 10-team league table after picking up 12 points in 14 matches. Kane Williamson himself had an ordinary season with the bat, managing 216 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of less than 100.

The superstar batter will be heading to England from home for New Zealand’s 3-match Test series in June. Williamson is returning to lead the New Zealand side after a lengthy absence due to an injury. Williamson will be up against his former skipper, Brendon McCullum who has taken over as the head coach of the England Test side.
