KL Rahul Will Miss The Whole South Africa Series, Rishabh Pant To Lead

The veteran Indian opener KL Rahul has been reportedly ruled out of the upcoming 5-match T20I series against South Africa on Wednesday. He had suffered a right groin injury while Kuldeep Yadav will miss out in the T20I series after getting hit on his right hand while batting in the nets last evening, BCCI said in a press release on Wednesday (June 8). Rahul, who was appointed as the leader of the Rohit Sharma-less India side, has sustained an injury on the eve of the series opener in New Delhi.

According to the latest reports of Cricbuzz, KL Rahul will play no role in India’s first home assignment after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.  As per the latest developments, Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the leader of the Men In Blue.

Rishabh Pant will be leading the Indian team in the five-match T20I series against the Proteas. Pant-starrer Team India will play the series opener against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.

“KL is out of the whole series and Rishabh Pant will lead the team as he is the designated deputy,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on Wednesday. It is understood that Ruturaj Gaikwad will open the batting alongside Ishan Kishan in the series-opener on Thursday.

The selection committee is yet to name a replacement for KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav. Both the cricketers will now report to the NCA where the medical team will assess them further and decide on the future course of treatment.
