After the Day 3 got washed out, it was going to be an interesting battle for victory in the first Test at Cape Town. However, the South African pacers prevailed as the Indian batsmen succumbed in front of the fast wicket, succumbing to a 72-run defeat.

Interestingly, prior to the 4th Day’s play, legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar shared a few words of wisdom for the Indian skipper. Gavaskar called upon Kohli to be “smart” and opined he should take advice from the dressing room.

Speaking to Sony TEN1 TV ahead of the penultimate day’s play, he said, “Slip positioning should be a little bit better. First and second slips are little too close as if they are encroaching on each other’s territories. They have to widen. It is all about being smart today.”

Gavaskar said when asked about Kohli’s role as a captain, “If Virat can be smart, take inputs from coach and support staff…while on the field you are so pressed and you don’t see the obvious. Perspective from the support staff can make a big difference.”

Team India will face an uphill task to reclaim their hold in the three-match Test series. The batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards. Thus, with the batsmen obviously was finding it difficult against pace, the Indian batsmen will need to pull out something special out of their sack if they wish to overturn their fortunes.

With the batting line-up failing to deliver in South Africa, it is yet to be seen if the team management comes up with any changes. The teams next lock horns at Centurion in the deciding second Test in a grueling contest to establish their domination.
