Former India head coach Ravi Shastri recalls an anecdote when the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma missed a chance to score a century at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground last year. Back in August 2021, Rohit played a match-winning knock of 83 runs at the Home of Cricket and was also involved in an opening-wicket partnership of 126 runs with KL Rahul.

Just when Rohit was looking good to score his maiden Test century in overseas conditions, veteran fast bowler James Anderson ran through his defense and cleaned it up with a brilliant delivery. Shastri, who was the Indian coach, said that the Nagpur-born batter was devastated and sat quietly on the table inside the dressing room.

As per the quotes in India Today, Ravi Shastri said, “When Rohit got out, he came back to the dressing room and just sat quietly on a table. He was in a daze. He just wanted that hundred. A special feeling for any player to get a hundred at Lord’s. And you could see that he was really, really dejected. But he made up for it at The Oval.”
