Star Sports, the official broadcaster of Asia Cup 2022 has released the first promo of the much-awaited tournament featuring India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma on Thursday. The broadcaster took to Twitter to share the promo. The event is scheduled to commence on 27 August in UAE with the final set to be played on September 11.

Team India will kickstart their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on 28 August. While India is the defending champion of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka is the official host of the 15th edition but due to the prevailing economic crisis and political turmoil, the tournament moved to Dubai. The 15th edition will feature India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the winner of the Qualifying event, which is scheduled to take place in Oman.

Singapore, Kuwait, UAE, and Hong Kong will cross swords in the qualifiers and the winner will join India and Pakistan in Group A. Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board announced the 15-member squad for the event naming Babar Azam as the captain. The exclusion of Pakistan pace spearheads Hasan Ali came as a big surprise.

The ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies will be concluding on Sunday (August 7), and according to a report in InsideSport, the BCCI will be finalizing Asia up squad on Monday. According to the details shared by the website, the selection committee will meet physically in Mumbai and will be joined by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid through video conferencing.

In all likelihood, young Punjab Kings fast bowler, Arshdeep Singh, who played his first T20I against England last month and has featured in all three T20Is against West Indies up till now, is a certainty for the squad. The veteran batter, KL Rahul will also be included in the squad but will only travel to Dubai if he manages to clear the fitness test.
