Kolkata Knight Risers’ love with their makeshift openers is on a soaring high. Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine and Colin de Grandhomme have been sent in as makeshift openers throughout the this season. Narine provided them with the best possible start in today’s match against Gujarat Lions in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Narine, who was on strike on the first ball of the innings, started the proceeding by taking on Praveen Kumar for 12 runs in his first over. James Faulkner, who has been included today in place of the in-form Andrew Tye, went under the Caribbean hammer as well. The Tasmanian all-rounder was taken for 17 runs in his first over which included four boundaries.

Basil Thampi was the next casualty. The rookie leaked 15 runs in his first over. Knight Riders had scored 44-0 in the first three overs. Narine overshadowed Gautam Gambhir so much so that the skipper faced only two balls in the first three overs.

Suresh Raina introduced himself in the attack in the fourth over and immediately reaped results by dismissing Narine on the first ball that he bowled to him. In what was a whirlwind innings, Narine scored 42 runs in 17 balls with the help of nine fours and a six. He made the highest score in the Indian Premier League scored all in boundaries, beating Sanath Jayasuriya’s 36 vs Deccan Chargers in 2008.
