Australia’s limited-overs skipper, Aaron Finch is likely to take a final call on his international career in ODI and make a mega announcement when he addresses the presser on the eve of the 3rd and the final ODI of the series against New Zealand. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday (September 11). Aaron Finch will be addressing the media persons at 10:30 AM (5:00 AM IST) on Saturday.
While nothing is confirmed, a report in codesports.com.au suggests that Aaron Finch is expected to take a final call on his ODI future. The Australia captain has been struggling for form for a long time and is under the scanner for his below-par run.
It remains to be seen if Finch also decided to take a call on his T20I future or not. In July this year, he hinted that he and a few other players might retire from the game after the 2022 T20 World Cup to be played in Australia in October-November.

Earlier this year, Aaron Finch had said, “It might be a full stop on everything (several players retiring from T20Is, including him) if it goes to plan like that. Fairy tales can happen in sports. I think, just naturally, when guys get to their mid-30s, it’s going to be that way. Davey (Warner) just keeps going; he could play for another 10 years, I think, with how to fit he is and how much he loves the competition and continuing to challenge himself.”
Aaron Finch started his career as a T20I specialist ever since he made his debut against England in 2011. His ODI debut came against Sri Lanka in 2013. He became a part of the leadership group after the sandpaper gate saga and captained Australia in the 2019 World Cup. Under him, Australia ended their T20 WC title drought and lifted the trophy by winning the title in the 2021 WC.

Finch was also named to the Test team in the 2018/19 season but failed to contribute much in his red-ball career and it lasted for only 5 Tests, with all his appearances coming in less than three months. Australia is leading the three-match ODI series against NZ 2-0 and will aim for a clean sweep win to clinch the Trans-Tasman trophy in a dominant fashion.
