Sourav Ganguly Reveals In 2023 IPL Will Return To Home And Away Format

In the 2023 edition of the tournament, the Indian Premier League will be returning back to the home and away format after having been restricted to a select few venues due to the Covid-19 pandemic over the last three years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sourav Ganguly confirmed the development in a letter addressed to state units of the board.

The BCCI shifted the 2022 edition to India but it was restricted to a few venues due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with Covid-19 cases in control, the BCCI has begun planning and preparing to host the IPL in the home and away format. Each team will be able to play half of their group-stage matches at home and the other half away from home.

As per the reports of PTI, Sourav Ganguly’s note to stated boards read, “The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues.”

The BCCI is also working to host the inaugural edition of the much-anticipated Women’s IPL early next year. The women’s IPL is likely to be held before the start of the men’s edition. Several IPL franchise owners have reportedly shown interest in owning teams in the women’s IPL.

Explaining the same in his letter, Sourav Ganguly said, “The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year.”
