Former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson opines that die-hard cricket fans could get witness another thrilling match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, but this time in the T20 World Cup 2022 final, once again at the MCG on Sunday, November 13. The Super 12 encounter between the neighbors a couple of weeks ago saw India registering a nail-biting game by four wickets with R Ashwin hitting the winning runs and Virat Kohli playing an unbeaten blistering knock of 82 runs off just 53 deliveries.

During a recent chat with the official website of T20 World Cup, Shane Watson said, “Everyone would love to see Pakistan and India in the final. I, unfortunately, missed that first (Super 12) game at the MCG, as I commentated the game previously between Australia and New Zealand.”

He further added, “But from all reports, all the people that went along to that game said it was something very special and the game was obviously an amazing game to watch on TV as well. They played in the T20 World Cup final in 2007 and everyone would love to see it again.”

However, for that mouth-watering clash to happen both teams must first win their respective semifinal encounters against New Zealand and England on November 9 and 10. Pakistan will be high on confidence as they have a good record against the Kiwis in ICC knockouts. Their clash is scheduled to take place at the SCG.

India and England on the other hand would be meeting each other in a World Cup knockout fixture after 35 years. As far as their ICC knockouts meeting is concerned, the Men in Blue had registered a win over England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and coincidentally, that game turned out to be a 20-20 affair. The second semifinal will be contested at the Adelaide Oval.

Should India and Pakistan make it to the final, this will be their second encounter in the summit clash of the marquee tournament. The two teams locked horns in the final of the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007 where under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India survived a scare from Misbah-ul-Haq to emerge triumphant.
