Former England spinner, Monty Panesar has made a bold prediction about India’s skipper Rohit Sharma’s future in T20Is. Rohit is currently 35 years old and will be 37 by the next edition of the T20 World Cup in 2024, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. Former England spinner shared his views about Team India’s humiliating loss against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final at the Adelaide Oval.

Monty Panesar reckons a few experienced Indian players will be retiring soon as their age won’t allow them to be a part of the next T20 World Cup in 2024.  During a recent chat with Times of India, he said, “India disappointed everyone (with the way they lost in the semifinal), and I think there are some retirements coming up. Let’s be honest, India didn’t put up a fight in the semis. It was a completely one-sided affair.”

He further added, “Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, and R Ashwin are the top names who could say goodbye to T20I cricket. The team management will surely have a meeting with these guys and will ask them about their plans. Virat is in great form. He is the fittest among all the Indian players. Age is just a number for Virat considering his super fitness. You may see him in the 2024 T20 World Cup.”

It’s worth noting that Virat Kohli amassed 296 runs in six innings for India, with a high score of 82*. Virat finished as the highest run-getter in T20 World Cup 2022. He was also the top run scorer in the 2014 edition.

Virat Kohli also became the first batter in history to surpass the tally of 4000 T20I runs. The former Indian captain also surpassed Mahela Jayawardene as the highest run scorer in T20 World Cup history.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma had a terrible outing in T20 World Cup 2022 as Rohit scored just 116 runs in six innings. Rohit scored a run-a-ball 27 in the semifinal against England and faced huge backlash for his defensive batting. The Indian skipper has had some injury issues as well throughout the year which puts a question mark on his fitness as well.
