India stand-in skipper KL Rahul on Wednesday said that the Indian team will leave no stone unturned in taking 20 wickets after opting to bat in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram. Rahul is leading that team because of the thumb injury to Rohit Sharma, which he suffered while fielding in the second ODI. Rohit was sent to Mumbai for further management of his injury. He was replaced by Abhimanyu Easwaran in the squad for the first match.

After winning the toss, KL Rahul said: “Looks a good wicket, put runs on the board and hope that the wicket breaks, use the foot-marks later on and try and see if we can take 20 wickets. There have been a few injuries, obviously we miss our captain Rohit and a few others but that gives opportunities to other guys. Everyone has played a little bit of cricket and they will be excited to take on this challenge and contribute to the team.”

India is playing three spinners – Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav – and two fast bowlers – Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav – for the first Test against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper, Shakib Al Hasan seemed confident and said more wickets fall on the first day than on the last day.

Describing the same, Shakib Al Hasan said, “Looks to me a good wicket but history says that more wickets fall on the first day than the last day. Hopefully, we can get some early wickets and put pressure on India.”

He further added, “We are playing a Test match after 5 months, that is a big gap but we have prepared well and hopefully we can put on a good show. This is an important series hopefully we can put some (WTC) points on the board.”
