The veteran Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle has expressed that Rishabh Pant getting dropped from India’s limited-overs squads was an expected move. Pant has received a snub from the team management for India’s upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. Bhogle wrote a tweet after Pant’s omission from the T20I squad was on the cards, insisting that Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Suryakumar Yadav make for a fabulous top-4.

In his tweet, Harsha Bhogle wrote: “So, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are now ahead of Rishabh Pant in the T20 pecking order. It was on the cards. Ishan, Ruturaj, Samson and Sky is a fabulous top 4. Expect Rajat Patidar to compete with Hooda and Tripathi for the last batting spot.”

India announced their squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka which will be commencing on January 3 in Mumbai. BCCI has appointed India have named Hardik Pandya as the captain, in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who is still recovering from a dislocated thumb, an injury he copped in the 2nd ODI match in the tour of Bangladesh.

This means that Pandya is set to be captain for the back-to-back T20I series. Pandya was teased as the captain in the broadcaster’s promo a few days back, however, the BCCI had not made an official confirmation then. India will also be without the services of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the T20I series.

The BCCI selectors announced a couple of squads late on Tuesday night, 27 December. Among notable changes, India has made it clear that they are moving away from Dinesh Karthik and R Ashwin in the T20Is. The team has picked up a lot of top-order batters, while the middle order will be comprised of Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda.
