Legendary Indian skipper, Kapil Dev has said that he can see India having three teams in the future, one each for T20Is, ODIs, and Tests. India is currently hosting New Zealand in a three-match ODI series and has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead, with the final match to be played on January 24 in Indore.
During a recent chat with Gulf Times, Dev said he can see India having three different teams for all three formats but added that this frequent changing of teams allows many other cricketers a chance to play for the national team.
Explaining the same, Kapil Dev said, “The flip side of changing the team frequently allows many cricketers a chance to play. In the future, I can see India will have three teams, one each for Twenty20, ODI, and Tests. That way you can have a bigger pool also.”

He went on to suggest that the changes should not be wholesome, insisting that dropping the Man of the Match for the upcoming game could be detrimental.
Kapil Dev explained, “Having said that, they should have one set of teams for a period of time. You can change into an odd person I can understand that. But if your Man of the Match is getting dropped the next day and somebody else comes in, we as cricketers don’t understand that.”
The former Indian skipper said India has a good team and a chance to win the upcoming 50-over World Cup but said that there are other teams who also have the ability to lift the prestigious trophy. Dev led the Indian team to their first World Cup trophy in 1983.

Elaborating the same, Kapil Dev said, “Yes, we have a team, but there are other teams also who have the ability to win the World Cup. To win the trophy, you need a stroke of luck, right combination and top of that the main players should remain fit, that’s the most important thing.”
