Batting great Sunil Gavaskar slammed at the lack of big runs from Indian batters in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy after India lost the 3rd Test in Indore by 9 wickets to Australia. However, India were on the receiving end in the 3rd Test as they allowed Australia to win into the 4-match series and make it 1-2 as well.

“In the first two matches, they did not get runs. Apart from Rohit Sharma in Nagpur, they did not get enough runs. When you don’t get enough runs, there is just that little tentativeness in their batting,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports after the 3rd Test ended inside 3 days. “They did not get enough runs. They were not able to go down the pitch as much as they should have. They let the pitch overtake them. It was the pitch that was playing on their minds, even more so in the second innings.”

Meanwhile, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that it will be tough for players who are out of form to return to form on pitches like these in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well.

“First thing we have to accept, looking at the larger picture that there is far too much bowling dominance. Right through the series, it’s been tough for batting. If you are out of form coming into a series like this, it’s tough to get back to form on pitches like these. Virat Kohli got 3 international hundreds in ODIs, that’s a great setting to return to form,” he further added.
