The first big event scheduled for this year is the World Test Championship final between Australia and India, which is set to take place at The Oval in the UK. India recently won the Border Gavaskar Trophy by 2-1, which handed them an entry to the all-important WTC final, and Australia succeeded after winning the third Test of the four-match series.

Thanks to New Zealand’s close win over Sri Lanka in their first Test, India’s doors of qualification opened way before they concluded the fifth Test on Day 5. This will be India’s second WTC final in a row, having lost the previous edition to the Kane Williamson-led side. The Indian side will be entering the game with their heads high, and former Australian skipper Aaron Finch reckons that the past won’t repeat itself.

While speaking to Hindustan Times, Finch stated that India’s bowling unit has ‘really good fast bowlers’, and also dubbed Mohammed Siraj as one of the ‘top bowlers in the world’. He opined that Siraj will play a crucial role for India irrespective of whether, both the spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, are in the combination or not.

Explaining the same, Aaron Finch said: “I am not sure what Hardik’s Test match plans but when you look at Shami, Umesh, Siraj, and these guys, they are really very good fast bowlers. Siraj is among the top bowlers in the world at the moment. He can all swing the ball. They beat England in England last time. So India have a huge chance in the final. They have a lot of bases covered whether they play one or two spinners.”

With the exception of Cummins’ comeback after missing the las two Tests against India, Aaron Finch spoke about the adjustments he anticipates in Australia’s XI for the summit clash. He also felt that Australia should have defeated India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, noting that Australia’s batting collapse in the Delhi Test changes the face of the series.

Aaron Finch explained, “They are not going to play three spinners, that’s for sure (laugh). They should have won 2-1. It is just that one hour of madness in Delhi.”
