Following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) dominating win over victory the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in their campaign initiator of Indian Premier League 2023, RCB wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik give a crucial update regarding the injury scare that hit the Bangalore camp during their opening game of the tournament. English fast bowler Reece Topley dislocated his shoulder while fielding in the first match and had to be taken off the field.
Topley exhibited a valiant fielding effort, diving to stop the ball during the 8th over of the first innings but failed to execute it perfectly and landed awkwardly hurting his shoulder. His shoulder seemed to have rolled, making him excruciate in pain. Following that, team’s physio attended Topley along with the medics who took him off the field, thus giving RCB their first play-time injury case of the season.

During a chat with JioCinema, Dinesh Karthik said, “It (shoulder) did pop out, but it went back in. I think he went for a scan during the game itself. He’s not in as much pain as we thought he’d be in. We’ll have to wait and see.”
RCB started their IPL 2023 campaign on a high as the Faf du Plessis-led side registered a comprehensive 8-wicket win. Winning the toss, Du Plessis put Mumbai into bat and wreaked havoc on their top order as the top four were scrapped off by RCB bowlers under 50 runs.
Young batting sensation Tilak Varma played an unbeaten knock of 84 off 46 balls, comprising nine fours and four sixes. Apart from Varma, IPL debutant Nehal Wadhera scored a quick 21 in just 13 balls, as Mumbai set a target of 172 for RCB.

The Royal Challengers got off to a fiery start as both the openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis knocked the MI bowlers down for fun. The duo built a 148-run opening partnership before Arshad Khan dismissed Du Plessis on the score of 73, after having hit five fours and six sixes. Kohli, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 82, adding six fours and five sixes to his name, as RCB chased the total down in just 16.2 overs.
