Rinku Singh Smashes 5 Consecutive Sixes To Take KKR Over The Line Against GT

Gujarat Titans (GT) hosted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their 2nd home match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a nail-bitting game as the visitors registered a close win by 3 wickets as Rinku Singh smashed 5 consecutive sixes in the last over bowled by Yash Dayal to take KKR over the line when they were requiring 29 runs in the last six balls.

It was a game that ebbed and flowed and there were certain chances of GT registering a rather comfortable win but Rinky Singh had different plans. Umesh Yadav gave the single to Rinku when KKR needed 28 to get off the final five balls and he ended up smashing five massive sixes.

The young southpaw demonstrated a conviction expected from a seasoned international cricketer. What makes the achievement of Rinku Singh even greater is that in the 17th over of the chase of 205 runs, Rashid Khan left KKR reeling with a hat-trick as he dismissed Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur on three consecutive deliveries.

Gujarat Titans would be gutted by how the last 8 deliveries panned out. As KKR needed 29 to win the game in those deliveries but 6 sixes and a boundary from Rinku Singh kept the hosts at bay. It has taken the sheen off what was otherwise another brilliant performance by Alzarri Joseph and an equally special Vijay Shankar batting performance but tonight belongs to Rinku Singh and KKR.

The fans really started believing when yet another wide full-toss was smacked for maximum runs by the batter, bringing the requirement down to 10 runs off the last two balls. A lengthy discussion in the Titans camp including skipper Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami followed but Dayal bowled a half-tracker, was sent beyond the fence to make it four sixes in a row for the Knight Riders and the final delivery was the same as Rinku Singh made no mistake in smoking it for a six to complete the win.
