Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis has opened up on the learnings he has got while playing under MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and said that he has learned to be calm from the latter. Du Plessis played under Dhoni during his time with CSK and also in Rising Pune Supergiant (Now defunct) while the Chenai-based franchise was dealing with their ban.
The South African was bought by RCB ahead of IPL 2022 during the mega auction and was immediately appointed as the captain of the franchise after Virat Kohli decided to step down after the 2021 season. Du Plessis guided RCB to the playoffs last season and RCB is currently competing for a spot in the top four.

The 38-year-old opened up on his learnings from Dhoni and said, as per the quotes in Sportskeeda, that he got to know about the art to remain calm from the CSK skipper. Faf du Plessis also said that being clear with the players is also something he picked up from his time under the former Indian captain.
Faf du Plessis explained, “Something that came from MS is how calm he is and I think that’s something that I have shown through my leadership as well. I am always trying to make sure that I am very clear with my players. You give your absolute best and move on. So, I think that will be the biggest one I picked from MS. He is called captain cool for a reason. There’s no greater guy to learn about being cool than MS Dhoni.”
While Du Plessis acknowledged that he learned a lot from the CSK skipper, the RCB opener stressed the importance of backing your own style of leadership, while picking up things from others.

Revealing these same, Faf du Plessis revealed, ” I was stealing from my eyes, my years about why he is so successful, what makes him so successful. Even at that stage, one of the most successful international and domestic captains in the world of cricket. But I think also something that I picked up really early on was the importance of being the leader that you are. I could never captain like MS or Virat or Graeme Smith or Stephen Fleming. I find my own way but you can look at things and incorporate from other people.”
