Former India captain MS Dhoni recently shared an interesting insight about his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate and India cricketer, Deepak Chahar. Speaking at the audio launch of Dhoni Entertainment’s ‘LGM’, Dhoni likened Chahar to a drug, explaining that his presence and absence both raise questions.

“Deepak Chahar is like a drug, if he is not there, you would think, where is he – if he is around, you would think, why he is here – good part is that he is maturing but he takes time & that is the problem, in my lifetime, I won’t see him matured (smiles),” said MS Dhoni.

Dhoni further emphasized the camaraderie he shares with Chahar, highlighting his growth and maturation. The CSK skipper acknowledged that while Chahar is developing, it takes time, and he jokingly expressed doubt about witnessing his complete maturity in his lifetime.

Pacer Deepak Chahar had a successful IPL 2023 season, claiming 13 wickets in ten matches at an average of 22.84 and an economy rate of 8.73. His performance was remarkable, especially considering he had suffered an injury early on in the tournament against the Mumbai Indians.

Despite his impressive showing in the IPL, Chahar was not included in the Indian squad for the upcoming West Indies tour across any of the formats. The 30-year-old seamer has struggled with injuries throughout his career, resulting in intermittent appearances for the national team.

Deepak Chahar missed the entire IPL 2022 due to an injury but was hopeful of being selected for the T20 World Cup 2022. However, he narrowly missed out on the tournament. With the ODI World Cup 2023 scheduled to be held in India from October 5, Chahar will be eager to seize any opportunity to make a strong case for his inclusion in the national team for the prestigious event.
