Rohit Sharma, who took over the Test captaincy from Virat Kohli in January 2022, is leading the Indian team in an away series for the first time. The upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies will be a crucial opportunity for him to showcase his leadership skills and batting prowess. Earlier this year, Rohit led India to a memorable series victory against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“Captain of the @BCCI Test team, Rohit Sharma & WI Captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, take a moment with the Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports & Community Development, Hon. Gretta Roberts in Dominica. #WIvIND #WIHome,” Windies Cricket captioned the post.

However, the Indian team fell short in their quest for an International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy, suffering a defeat to Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. To solidify his position as the captain in the longer format of the game, Rohit will be aiming to make a significant impact in the upcoming series against the West Indies.

The Test series against the West Indies marks India’s first assignment in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. After the two Tests, the teams will also compete in three ODIs and five T20Is. This series holds significant importance for India as they aim to start their campaign in the new WTC cycle on a positive note.

As Rohit Sharma leads the Indian team into the Test series, all eyes will be on his performance both as a captain and a batsman. The expectations are high, and the team will be looking to make a strong start in their quest for success in the World Test Championship.
