India U-19’s skipper Prithvi Shaw has been in some form since making his debut at the first-class level, where he has raced to five centuries in no time. Recently, the world witnessed his talent during the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand, where he led India U-19 to lift the trophy.

Being just 18-year-old, he feels himself ready to represent India at the senior level. Shaw noted that he has to score runs in order to grab an opportunity to play for the senior team.

“I think so. I have to keep scoring runs. I have to grab those opportunities to be there in the senior team. Expectations will be there. Obviously, people will compare with Sachin sir or somebody else. But I know my game and I better be grounded. I have not even started and it’s a long journey,” said Shaw.

His never-ending thrust for runs earned him an Indian Premier League contract. During the recent auction for IPL 2018, Mumbai Indian bought him to strengthen their squad. However, he is not thinking too much about making his debut in the cash-rich league and wants to focus on Mumbai’s upcoming matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“I don’t know what they are (IPL franchise) thinking. Personally, I’m not thinking about it now because I’m here to play Vijay Hazare. I will plan how to play in IPL when the tournament nears. I would like to be in present,” he quoted to TOI.

Amidst, chief selector of the national cricket team, MSK Prasad, is keeping his sharpen eyes over these young guns, who won India their fourth Youth World Cup title recently. These players can get a chance to play for India ‘A’ to develop their game for the higher level.

Prasad said “We have been following all their matches and they will be considered for the ‘A’ team. We have been backing a particular set of players and have been consistent in our selection policy for both the senior team and the ‘A’ team.”
