On the opening day of the 2nd Test at Port of Spain, the West Indies managed to make a comeback after India got off to a strong start. However, the former Indian captain Virat Kohli (87 batting) and Ravindra Jadeja (36 batting) formed an unbroken 106-run partnership, helping the visitors inch ahead once again, with the day’s play concluding at 288/4. The early partnership of skipper Rohit Sharma (80) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (57) had set the tone for India’s innings with a solid 139-run opening stand.

Speaking on JioCinema, Aakash Chopra expressed his belief that Kohli would be eyeing a big century given the patience he had shown in both the current Test and the previous one in Dominica.

“He is not too far from his century. So, once he gets to that score, the amount of patience that he has shown already in Dominica and again in Trinidad, you expect him to actually convert that century — if he gets to that — into a really big one,” said Aakash Chopra.

With India closing in on 300 runs, fans wonder what an ideal first innings score would be. Chopra believes India would aim to score as many as possible since they were asked to bat first.

“I don’t think they have a score in mind or will have a score in mind on Day Two and everybody should get to bat. If you get to 550 that would be great, but will India get to 550? We don’t know. But they would want as many as they can,” Aakash Chopra added.

Regarding the pitch on Day Two, Aakash Chopra anticipates that it will still favor batsmen, despite slowing down. He said. “It is slow; it is going to be low, but I am not expecting demons in the pitch with regards to batting against the spinners or even against the fast bowlers. The second new ball is due. They will take it at some stage. But I don’t see even that ball threatening the Indian batters.”
