The new Indian team chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, is set to make some bold decisions regarding the ODI squad for the Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be hosted in India later this year. Among the established names, Ravichandran Ashwin and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to face the axe before the showpiece event.
As the teams prepare for the highly anticipated ODI World Cup, each one is fine-tuning their playing 11 and testing out the best possible lineup. Pitch conditions in India will play a crucial role in squad building, and players with vast experience in the IPL will receive preference. Wrist spinners will be a key component for all teams to exploit the dusty Indian conditions.
The pressure will be immense on the host country, India, as they have not won any ICC trophy since their Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. While the advantage of playing on home soil will be beneficial, it may also add to the weight of expectations and put the team under additional pressure.

The squad for the Asia Cup 2023, to be declared in the third week of August, will shed more light on the team selection for the World Cup. However, it is speculated that Suryakumar and Ashwin are being scrutinized due to their recent average performances in ODIs.
While Ashwin’s experience of bowling in Indian conditions may work in his favor, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja currently seem to be the favored spinners for selection.

Good news awaits India as both middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have recovered from their injuries and will be available for selection in the team traveling for the Asia Cup 2023. Despite Shreyas and KL Rahul’s absence for a considerable period, Suryakumar has not been able to secure his spot in the team.
