Yashasvi Jaiswal’s debut series for India has been impressive, amassing 266 runs in his first three innings. However, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar feels the young batsman may have gotten complacent, leading to his dismissal in the second Test at Trinidad. After a spectacular century on debut, Jaiswal appeared on course for another big score before getting out for 57, chasing a wide delivery and nicking it to second slip.

Sunil Gavaskar, writing for Mid-Day, pointed out that Jaiswal missed a golden opportunity to score a century in the second Test, especially on a batting-friendly pitch where Virat Kohli cashed in with a century in his 500th Test appearance.

“Jaiswal lost patience and reached out to a widish half-volley and was caught at deepish backward point,” Sunil  Gavaskar mentioned, emphasizing the importance of being more disciplined and focused at the crease.

Comparing India vs West Indies series to other high-profile contests like the Ashes and Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series, Gavaskar expressed his concern over the one-sided nature of India vs West Indies Tests. While the other series witnessed closely fought battles, the two-Test series in the Caribbean has been largely one-way traffic.

“In Trinidad though, it looked so one-sided that there are barely a few hundred people at the ground to support the home team West Indies. Most of those are the Indians living overseas who have come to see their favorite Team India,” said Sunil Gavaskar, highlighting the lack of local support for the West Indies team.

Despite the dominating performances by India, the cricket legend appreciated the fighting spirit displayed by Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their contest and the thrilling battle between England and Australia in the Ashes.
