India batter Abhinav Mukund applauded Tilak Varma, saying that he is ready for other formats after yet another impressive show against the West Indies. Varma scored an unbeaten 49 as India beat West Indies by seven wickets in Guyana as well. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Mukund said that Varma played the key role that was needed, adding that he really liked his maturity during India’s run chase. India chased down a 160-run target with seven wickets and 13 balls in hand to keep themselves alive in the five-match T20I series as well.

“He played the role that was required, and it turned out to be such a good partnership. I just feel Tilak Varma didn’t play it out of choice or anything. He just went about doing his business. When Suryakumar was going so hard at every single ball and every single over, he didn’t necessarily need to go after anything. So that’s where I really liked his maturity,” said Mukund.

He further added that Varma stayed till the end, insisting that he is knocking down the doors of other formats as well. Varma has been India’s top-scorer in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies, scoring 139 runs in three games so far, at an average of 69.50 and a strike rate of 139.

“He hung around, ensured that the finish was quite good and it’s great signs for Indian cricket. You have high praise from someone like Robin Uthappa. He loves him in terms of comparison to someone like Yuvraj Singh. From whatever we’ve seen in this series, he’s really knocking down the doors of other formats,” Abhinav Mukund added.

He also reckoned that Suryakumar Yadav is a batter hard to stop when he is in full flow as well. The swashbuckling batter became the Player of the Match against the West Indies in the third T20I on Tuesday, August 8 after scoring 83 runs off 44 balls with 10 fours and four sixes as well.

“It does not matter to him what the occasion is. He is an exceptional player and when he gets going, there is no stopping him. He has the range and every single shot in the book. I am just trying to figure out in my head for my own curiosity, where would I bowl to him if I were the opposing captain. If he gets into such sort of mood, it is very hard to bowl to him. That’s the truth and West Indies found it out the hard way today,” Abhinav Mukund concluded.
