Senior Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a formidable force in white-ball cricket, but his Test career has been hindered by persistent injuries. Former Australian white-ball captain Aaron Finch has unveiled the challenges Bhuvneshwar posed for him during his playing days. The Indian pacer dismissed Finch on seven occasions in international matches, notably four times in one-day internationals (ODIs).

Interestingly, all four of these dismissals came consecutively during a series in 2019. During a Q&A session on ‘X’, Finch was asked about his struggles against the seasoned Indian bowler. A fan queried, “Big fan here, why did bhuvi troubled you a bit.. Could you elaborate? Is it your feet coming across??” Finch candidly responded, “Yep!! Tried for 15 years to stop that happening.”

Aaron Finch retired from international cricket earlier in 2023, having announced his ODI retirement in 2022 while leading Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup at home later that year.

The former Australian skipper holds the record for two of the top three individual T20I scores, including his 172 against Zimbabwe in July 2018 which surpassed his previous record of 156 against England in 2013. He participated in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket, captaining the San Francisco Unicorns.

In contrast, Bhuvneshwar’s chances of returning to the Indian team seem uncertain. His last appearance for India was in a T20I against New Zealand in November 2022. The 33-year-old did, however, play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and even captained the team in a few matches in the absence of regular skipper Aiden Markram.

Recently, Bhuvneshwar’s Instagram bio edit caused speculation about his future with Team India. He removed the word ‘cricketer’ from his description, which previously read ‘Indian cricketer.’ This small change triggered discussions about his potential retirement or change in career direction.
