Veteran India batter Shreyas Iyer has been out of action for quite some time now due to a back injury and he played his last match against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in March as well. He was supposed to be added to the upcoming Ireland series after several videos of him practising in nets surfaced on social media platforms as well.

However, the 28-year-old was not included in the squad since he was still not fully recovered yet and it raised questions over whether he will be added to the squads for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer had back surgery a few months ago and recently again a video of him practising in the nets went viral as well.

However, a few days back while speaking to the reporters, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma shared a big update on Shreyas Iyer’s recovery and he said that Iyer is on track to his recovery as well. “Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for the World Cup,” said Rohit Sharma when he was asked about the talented batter’s return.

In the 50-over format, Shreyas Iyer smashed 805 runs in 20 matches after playing at the number four place as well. After suffering an injury in the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in Ahmedabad, he failed to be featured in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 against Australia at Oval as well. He also missed the ongoing West Indies tour of India as well.
