Preceding the commencement of the Asia Cup on August 30, the Indian cricket team subjected themselves to the demanding Yo-Yo test, a rigorous assessment of their physical prowess. According to reports, Shubman Gill outshone his peers by achieving a remarkable score of 18.7, unmatched by any other Indian cricketer.

Gill’s commitment to his off-field training echoes his dedication to prime himself for the challenges of the sport. In the modern cricket landscape, excelling in batting or bowling is no longer the sole criterion of success; fitness has emerged as a pivotal aspect, recognized and embraced by players worldwide.

Credit is due to Virat Kohli, who has spearheaded the drive for fitness within the team. Upon succeeding the iconic MS Dhoni as captain, Kohli introduced the Yo-Yo test as a mandatory benchmark for inclusion in the Indian squad. Numerous esteemed Indian cricketers fell short of the test’s requirements and consequently missed selection.

In a recent social media post, the cricketing legend shared a snapshot, proudly announcing his Yo-Yo test accomplishment with a score of 17.2. His caption read, “The happiness of finishing the Yo-Yo test between the dreaded cones. 17.2 done.”

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a stance against such public disclosures. The BCCI issued a verbal caution to all Indian team players, urging them to refrain from sharing confidential information, including their Yo-Yo test scores, which could potentially breach contractual agreements.
