The Indian cricket team destined for the Asia Cup has congregated in Bengaluru for an intensive conditioning camp before embarking on their journey to Sri Lanka. The players are engrossed in fitness drills and have successfully cleared the Yo-Yo test. Virat Kohli’s announcement of his score, 17.2, on social media sparked the disapproval of top BCCI officials, prompting the issuance of a “verbal guideline” to avoid disclosing confidential test results.

While captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya have reportedly passed the fitness test, their respective scores remain undisclosed. A source cited by PTI mentioned, “The tests were successful and the reports will be sent to the BCCI soon.”

Although the initial sessions primarily occurred indoors, with the exception of the Yo-Yo test, the forthcoming days will witness an augmentation of outdoor activities. However, individuals returning from Ireland might not be subjected to the Yo-Yo test, focusing instead on the skill-set segment of the camp.

As earlier reported, the camp encompasses an array of evaluations, including lipid profile, blood sugar (fasting and post-prandial), uric acid, calcium, Vitamin B12, and D, creatinine, testosterone, and Dexa tests, among others.

Beyond the fitness regimen, the agenda includes outdoor events such as match simulation sessions overseen by batting coach Vikram Rathour and head coach Rahul Dravid. Additionally, the progress of KL Rahul, who has been conditionally named in the Asia Cup squad, remains under close observation. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar indicated that the wicketkeeper-batsman carries a non-injury-related “niggle.”

While Rahul participated in the day’s fitness drills, he was exempt from the Yo-Yo test. Sanju Samson was designated as a traveling reserve in the Asia Cup squad to provide cover for Rahul. However, current circumstances suggest that Rahul might miss the initial phase of the Sri Lanka leg of the Asia Cup.

The conditioning camp is slated to conclude on August 29, after which the Indian team is scheduled to depart for Colombo on the subsequent day.
