In a recent viral video, New Zealand’s pace sensation Lockie Ferguson attempted a famous dialogue from the iconic 2001 Bollywood sports drama ‘Lagaan.’ The video, shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on October 2, showed Ferguson struggling to grasp the unfamiliar words, but eventually delivering the line with impeccable style: “Teen guna Lagaan dena padega” (“Three times the tax has to be paid”).

Ferguson’s attempt at the iconic line left fans and fellow cricketers in splits, and the ICC captioned the video as “Lockie Ferguson X The movie Lagaan.” Ferguson responded in jest, “Still fixing my hair,” displaying his trademark humor.

Ferguson has been in commendable form on the cricketing front, finishing with figures of 1/34 in the warm-up game against Pakistan and leading the Kiwis in the ODI series against Bangladesh, where he scalped two crucial wickets in as many games. In the year 2023, he has accounted for eight wickets in 11 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 5.99.

Having played for various franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), including the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Titans (GT), and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Ferguson is well-versed in the nuances of subcontinental conditions. As the marquee ICC event unfolds, Ferguson will undoubtedly look to harness his experience and skill to make a significant impact.
